Seeing an article concerning Tony Romo and a possible settlement that was reached with CBS. Apparently, he will still receive a good portion of his salary; this according to the article, following his arrest for OWI. I had to do a google search to clarify that. Just what the heck is an OWI?

Maybe it is just me, I’m old and out of touch. OWI means, operating under the influence. I always heard that called DWI, driving while intoxicated. My first thought after reading that was, are they trying to clarify things or just make things sounds more politicaly correct?

It is something I have noticed and mentioned a few times, this changing of names, the defining of things. When I was in elementary school, we had the “retarded” children, now called special needs kids. Illegal aliens have become undocumented migrants. Operating while intoxicated? I’ve read that it means operating or being in physical control of a vehicle.

This term is used by several states here in America, although I’ve never heard of it before. In Maryland you can be charged for riding a horse or driving a horse drawn vehicle while under the influence. The charge is DUI/DWI depending. What state are you in? I mean the actual state, not your drunken state, although that can also be a factor in the charging.

Tony Romo was charged with OWI and fired from his position on moral grounds. I just snicker about that. Yes, he was operating; in physical control of an automobile after having consumed alcoholic beverages. He violated the morality clause of his contract!

Really, you fire the guy for that. Like anyone listening to him, watching a football game that he is announcing, is going to be upset that Tony Romo was drinking. Now Jimmy the Greek talking about selective breeding was a bit too much and he deserved to lose his job over that, but drunk driving?

I really don’t think of that as immoral, doesn’t make a person a terrible person, just a little stupid maybe. Whatever the civil/criminal penalties are for that apply. It shouldn’t have cost him his job, in my opinion. And I don’t even really like Tony Romo, don’t really know much about him at all.

Things sure have changed since I was a younger man. Romo gets fired for a moral breach of his contract while those that attack federal agents are being hailed as heroes. Illegals are being called dreamers, and I’m told should receive every monetary and moral support possible. The death penalty is immoral! Murdering your children however, that’s just mental illness. She should receive help!

Well, I remember when Dean Martin and Foster Brooks were quite popular. Both were known for consuming copious amounts of alcohol. Their immorality was quite entertaining. Guessing today they would be fired! A serious moral breech. Really CBS. Well then, remove all the ads for beer. Quit contributing to the immorality. Maybe Tony wouldn’t have been drinking if it wasn’t for them, ever think about that?

That firing just appears to me as another example of virtue signaling. It’s totally ingenious. I read where CBS settled out of court regarding that. Romo will receive a good portion of the monies promised to him in his contract. It’s in the millions.

I doubt that it will bother him much. He’s facing four charges but will not serve any jail time or probation. A plea deal was reached. His offenses were, passing on the right, suspected of drinking alcohol, an open container was in the vehicle, and he refused a second breathalyzer test. Yes, he was immoral!
