When history doesn’t match the past. It is something I began to notice a few years back. I was a part of that history but in the retelling the history has changed. I’m betting I’m not the only one experiencing this.
I suppose it is the same thing as saying hindsight is 20/20, except in this case hindsight is a bit myopic. Well, truth be told it’s on the level of Mr. Magoo. If you remember him, you know what I’m talking about. Definitely lacking in discernment.
History is now being used as a tool instead of a lesson. That’s the reason history is being modified so drastically. The plan is to make you feel guilty for the past, for something you had no hand in whatsoever. Making amends for the past is a futile endeavor. Those folks aren’t around anymore.
Those that I find myself in conflict with generally have a different version of history than my own. The puzzling part to me is when we shared that history. It has happened with family members, classmates and co-workers. Same place, same time, different history.
When I began writing these postings, I thought to record my history and provide that history to others. That is to say, provide my perception of historical events, the way I see things. I have often wondered what my ancestors thought about their current events, rather than what history told me about it.
I used to wonder why “old” people where always correcting others, always saying stuff like, back in my day. Well now I know. History isn’t matching the past. It needs corrections! That isn’t really how all that went down. I know, I was there.
