The school buses are running and summer is on them; Labor Day looms large on the horizon. The mid-term elections are gaining momentum in the consciousness of the candidates. The promises are starting to flow like water. Vote for me, and I’ll give you whatever you want!
I’ve heard the promises of an increase in the “cola” maybe as high as 3.5%! Social security recipients may receive $2400 from a “Bernie Boost” than Sanders is proposing. He’s worried that he will lose his seat after 35 years in congress. Other politicians are offering all sorts of things in the hope of appeasing the voters.
Data centers are now becoming the hot button topic. Taxes, wars, and immigration have been beaten down to the point the voters are sick of hearing about that. Circle back to the environment. Data centers are going to use up all the water in the country and all the farmlands.
Meanwhile social media is busy creating outrage over the renaming of Lake Ontario. We are being urged to boycott Google maps and Apple. Gonna put those out of business over this renaming stuff! Still, don’t forget to call Bruce, Kaitlin and illegal aliens, dreamers, asylum seekers, or just plain hard-working people striving for a better existence! Just as long as you don’t call them criminals for simply having performed a criminal act.
It seems to me there is like a two-week cycle involved with all of this. It’s the same issues over and over just rehashed, renamed and new outrage. But now the mid-terms are getting closer, a sense of urgency is creeping in.
Will voting really be monitored more closely? Are we really only going to allow citizens to vote? Troubling questions to those politicians. I heard that ICE agents will be at the polling places! That may deter illegals from voting! Man, this is serious.
I’m hearing about an increase in measles cases. Can we roll out another pandemic? No, I don’t think the public will buy that again this soon, but a little epidemic might do the trick! And where is Fauci now? Kennedy just made some vaccinations optional! That will surely kill us all.
Labor Day will be celebrated. A holiday created by a union to have a day off. It became an official holiday in 1894. The president was Grover Cleveland, democrat. In a strange twist Grover Cleveland sent federal troops to suppress a railroad strike! It was a strike against the Pullman railroad, the workers making demands.
The more things change the more they remain the same. An old proverb and one that is true. On the surface it may appear that things are changing, but the underlying motivations are not. Politicians are still politicians. Their concern is in obtaining status, position and power. Once obtained, they do whatever they can to keep it.
It’s the same old thing. Relax, take a deep breath. Calm down folks. In my estimation people are far too excitable these days. Children are being taught to act in that fashion. Something you don’t like? Boycott, throw a fit, stage a protest, demand action! You are an activist!
Well, back in my day we just called that stirring the pot. It’s funny because it is nothing more than changing the name. Activism vs moderation. Proverbs 25:16 warns, “If you find honey, eat just enough—too much of it, and you will vomit.” Sound advice. Change “honey” for social media and it applies equally well.
