Each morning, I make an effort to write something. Is this a blog or a diary? Seems like it is morphing into a bit of both. A diary without much personal stuff, just opinions. Diaries tell secrets, don’t they?

I guess you could say I’m writing social commentary. That is what I had in mind when I began although I wasn’t aware of that. I thought I would just share my thoughts and memories. Turns out I’m running out of memories, and my thoughts tend to repeat. Well, I was never one much to be on the cutting edge, a follower of fad or fashion.

Today there is much discussion about mental health. Well one thing I know for certain is, everyone has issues. I’m certainly no exception, but feel no desire, no need to seek professional advice. Those professionals have the same issues as everyone else, regardless of their degrees.

I did read an interesting article concerning what the author called ” empathic suicide.” A fancier way of saying, killing ourselves with kindness. It was his opinion that is what is happening here in America. It does seem quite basic, simple and straightforward. I concur with the authors conclusions.

The enforcement of the law, the setting of a standard is now being viewed as despotism! It’s a lack of empathy when we enforce existing laws. Supporting your city, state or nation is called patriotic fervor! MAGA is being portrayed as a very bad thing, the desire to make America great again, is well, despotism!

Society does change over time; there is no escaping that. Everything that goes around, comes around. The greatest scholars in the world have written tomes about just that. The American republic was established in the hope, dare I say dream, as an attempt to change that cycle. Franklin himself saying, “if you can but keep it.”

You can’t keep the republic by killing the republic. The introduction of socialism into the republic is an infection. A disease that needs to be eradicated. Independence cannot thrive upon dependence!

“The strength of the nation derives from the integrity of the people.” Guess who said that? It is attributed to Confucius, that old Chinese philosopher. Whether he actually said that or not I can’t say, I haven’t fact checked it. I do believe it is the truth of the matter, however.

Open handwritten journal with pen, coffee mug, books, candle, and succulent by window
Memories, history, opinions and facts. Did Ben really say that? My descendants will be able to fact check that. That’s kinda cool.
