Remembering when I would turn on my computer and hear, “you’ve got mail.” It’s funny because back then I rarely got any actual mail. I knew very few people with an e-mail address. America wasn’t really online quite yet.

It was an exciting and new thing back then, getting mail. Today my mailbox is 99% spam, scam and offers! I don’t want 99% of the offers and none of the spam or scam. America is online and so is the rest of the world! I have three e-mail addresses.

Why three? Because two are decoys for the spammers and scammers. That third one I seldom share with anyone, it’s like my secret server in the basement. Still, occasionally the spammers and scammers slip in there. There is no actual security in the digital world.

During my AOL years there were those chat rooms. I did enjoy them on Friday evenings before they all turned into trash. In the beginning the other folks were polite, friendly and in general jovial folks just having a bit of fun. All that changed quickly enough, degenerated into a cesspool. I quit that!

Following that I discovered Facebook when everyone was farming and busy building their friends list. Getting celebrities on your friend list was a big thing. The whole farming thing was a bit strange, at least I thought so, and didn’t really participate, like the POKEMAN thing, I dabbled a bit but that’s all.

And I’ve been watching as Facebook degenerates into a cesspool. Driven by revenue (advertisers) it has taken on a new purpose. Once a social network, now it is a place to attract cult members!

Mostly liberal cult members because they are the most emotionally weak people among us. Raised on dependence and entitlement they expect to be empowered because, they deserve it. They deal with cognitive dissonance by rationalization. They are the victim; therefore they deserve everything.

It doesn’t make any difference what the issue is, they are always the victim. They got assigned the wrong gender at birth! They were born with the wrong skin color or in the wrong country. They are being cheated because they should have a million dollars too. They are being targeted, marginalized and misunderstood.

America On Line officially ended its’ dial up services in September of last year. It still operates as a mail service and providing some entertainment content and of course, advertising. You do not get that greeting, “you’ve got mail.” I read where that is now considered nostalgic.

For those of us old enough to remember, so is “number please” when picking up your phone. That was before dial up service! Many of us still say we are dialing the number. You’ve got mail was something your mom might say after checking the mail, in the mailbox, at the end of the road you lived on. No mail on weekends!
