Why do we have such a need to place the blame? I’ve read a few papers about that, the explanation from the phycologists. I smiled reading those because they just sounded like my grandmother had gone to college.

I’m thinking about that as we attempt to blame Anthony Fauci for the pandemic. I’ve even found myself doing that, blaming Fauci I mean. Did Fauci invent this “gain of function” research method? No, he did not, a group of other scientists are credited with that, at least the “gain of function” we all hear about today.

The central issue is in defining exactly what the purpose of gain of function is. What does it hope to accomplish. We, the public, the non-scientists, are told its’ purpose is to create a cure for a virus. If we create a “super bug” variant of a virus we can then combat that virus.

Assuming that is the sole purpose of this gain of function research, experiments that must be conducted in super sealed laboratories, can we blame Fauci for the leak? I wouldn’t say that is fair. Is it fair to blame Fauci for the response to that virus? He did have the ear of the officials issuing their directives. I saw where some say Trump should be the one being blamed, he listened to Fauci.

It appears to me that the effort to stop the spread of the virus was really an effort to have people follow the same rules as in the laboratory. That’s what the mask wearing, distancing and all that was about. The vaccine was supposed to be the miracle cure. Fauci didn’t create the vaccine.

Still, we need someone to blame. I’m no different from anyone else in that regard. I do think Fauci lied about the origins of that virus and then had to continue lying to cover up the truth. That’s how lies work! I’m blaming Fauci by, here’s the phycological part, transference. You can’t really blame a virus, so you blame someone or something else. It’s not much different than saying, everyone was doing it.

I do think that this need to place the blame has grown over the years. It should be no surprise that with increased litigation placing the blame has grown exponentially. We can sue! All you need to do is place the blame. There are law firms lining up to sue the government for the response to covid. You may be entitled to compensation!

Blame and accountability. Are they the same thing? Is owning it, accountability? When you can blame someone or something else it does release you from accountability. That’s another of those phycological explanations. That does lead me to my favorite position. I told you so! Love it when I can say that.

Transactional analysis perspective. That’s what the head doctors call it. It supposed to be me seeking validation. It’s tied to the “critical parent” ego state and often comes at the cost of reduced empathy. It’s the belief that you are right. Yeah, what I call confidence in my analysis of the situation. Told you so.

I blame Fauci for lying. I have said it before, perhaps he had the best on intentions, his motivation was purely to help. But he lied about the real purpose of gain of function research, knowing if he told the truth funding would be withheld. Scientists rely heavily on funding, to the tune of 150 billion dollars last year alone.

Was the vaccine effective? I don’t know about that, maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. What made the vaccine necessary in the first place? Was it gain of function research that escaped from the lab? What about all the variants that kept appearing? Was the gain of function research tied to that as well? Did this gain of function enable that virus to mutate more rapidly? Could be.

Placing the blame is an attempt to understand and remove the fear. We are naturally afraid of what we don’t understand. We are born with that response. And, in my estimation, we learned to deal with that until we figured out, we could blame someone else and sue them for it! We have reached a point we are we are suing because, you hurt my feelings. I’ll feel better when I get that settlement.

At least with this covid response, this push to get the jab and the documentation of that compliance, you can provide evidence. I’ve got my “shot record” right here! I’m entitled to compensation!

We just need someone to blame, some agency of the government to cite. The government funded the lab, Fauci knew that and knew about gain of function research. The virus leaked out, the lies began. Who is at fault? It really doesn’t matter, all that matters is that we have someone, or something to blame.
