I’m still amazed by the amount of support for Carmelo Anthony there is on social media. I understand an appeal has been filed, no surprise there, that happens almost every time. Despite all the money that was raised for his defense, most spent on buying a new home and car for his parents by the way, a new fundraiser has started. It is all the “excuses” and “justifications” for his actions that continue to baffle me.
I’m hearing everything from, the weapon wasn’t a weapon at all, it was a tool. Yeah okay, a tool used as a weapon, to he was in fear of hs life! Another kid pushed him so he was afraid for his life. He took that tool and stabbed that kid in the heart. I fail to see how that can be justified in any reasonable fashion. I haven’t heard a single word about stopping multi-tool violence.
The bottom line is simple enough, he was confronted by twin brothers for standing under a tent belonging to their team. Reports say it was raining and Carmelo Anthony’s team hadn’t set up their tent yet. He chose to stand under the tent where he was confronted. I agree that those twins were just being obnoxious jerks. It’s no excuse, but they are kids. They confronted him, words were exchanged, Carmelo was pushed. His response was to stab someone in the heart.
That reaction can not be reasonably justified in any way. He should have just walked away from that situation. That isn’t what he chose to do, he killed someone instead! According to testimony Carmelo was actualy the aggressor, cursing at the team members and refusing to leave the tent. Accounts vary from a touch to a push from Metcalf. By his own admission Carmelo stabbed Metcalf in the chest!
I’m not trying to argue the case, go into every possible scenario. I’m not defending what Metcalf did in regard to the confrontation. Carmelo Anthony stabbed Metcalf to death over standing under a tent! That’s the bottom line, there is no justifying that. It’s a sad and tragic series of events. That does not excuse, does not negate responsibilty. It wasn’t an accident, it was a deliberate choice. Saying, well I’ve never done that before, is also no excuse. Metcalf has never died before either, he doesn’t get a second chance.
