I was amused after leaving a comment on some random post. The post was someone’s opinion in regard to being a vegan or being gay, I don’t remember which. My comment was, who is he? I was informed that this person was famous, followed by a list of the shows he had performed in. It was insinuated that I was just an old man, out of touch with the world, because I didn’t know of his fame. That was the amusing part. Yeah I’m old, and I don’t watch a lot of television shows or go to the movies. I am not up to date on the latest actors or famous people in general.
I am settled. Yup, that’s how I think about all of that. I’m settled. I have decided what I like and don’t like, for the most part, and settle for that. Now being settled may sound like a defeat to some, but I see it as a victory. It is what we all go out in the world searching for, when we find it, we settle down. It is what we work all our lives hoping to achieve. I like listening to my music, watching my movies and reading my books. I haven’t been drawn to any new ones in a while. The simple truth being, I’m not interested.
Am I missing anything? I don’t think I am, as what I do hear and see these days is mostly a bunch of nonsense. The world has become such a dramatic place these days, full of warriors and survivors. There are those fighting for social justice, battling against inequity and intolerance, and those that have survived through all of that. All of that was just called growing up back in my time. Yeah, things weren’t always fair back then either, but we got over it. Eventually we settled on the truth, that is life. We may have all been born equal, but life’s circumstances sure aren’t. The truth being, they never will be either. Just settle down and deal with it.
I’m amused looking back and remembering all of that. It wasn’t quite as pronounced back then, the world wasn’t in such a rush to be inclusive, tolerant and empathetic. Thing was, people were settled, the already knew what they liked and didn’t like. Everyone wasn’t trying to stay young and hip! Yeah, we call that being current these days, our finger on the pulse. If you’re not changing your opinions, adopting the latest and greatest thing, you are just old. That hasn’t changed over the years. I’m not old, I’m settled. It’s a funny thing though being confident, you get called stubborn, ignorant and old. My parents were like that. Funny how that works isn’t it? It will change for this generation as well, when they settle down a bit. LOL
