What is causing inflation? The devaluation of money. How did that happen? We started giving it away. Really not that difficult to understand, is it? If a girl is “cheap” why is that? Same reason, giving it away.

That is my thought on that subject anyway. Everything loses its’ value when it is free. Although I admit the concept of gold being such a valuable thing has always puzzled me, I mean beyond being a great conductor of electricity and making pretty jewelry, what good is the stuff? If you are hungry, sick or need shelter of some kind you gladly give it away in exchange for those things. I’m not giving away my last bite of food for a piece of gold! The value is certainly relative to your needs. It is supply and demand.

What is inflation? Is it really an increase in value for whatever product or service you require in exchange for money. No, it is really an increase in what you are willing to pay for those things. If you don’t buy the products the value of those products are reduced. Yeah, we call that being “on sale” or clearance items. They are the things people are unwilling to pay the price for, not that valuable. The consumer sets the price. It isn’t corporate greed as much as public excess. How many items do we purchase that we don’t really need? We call that “quality of life.” That’s possibly the greatest misnomer I can think of, the quality of your life is not dependent upon your material possessions. Those possessions are just distractions.

Now I’m no minimalist living off the grid and all of that, no pioneer, settler, squatter, or homesteader, I enjoy all the excess I can manage. As a result I often complain about the price of things just like everyone else. Knowing the problem, being aware of the situation doesn’t always mean you have the answer to that problem. I’m more than willing to give away some of my money in exchange for things I want. Sometimes my wants interfere with my needs! I’m a part of the problem. I have no plans to change that however.

There are times when I get feedback on my postings and sometimes they are negative. It’s not a surprising thing and I don’t take it personally. Well, okay sometimes I do get upset by that, but I get over it quickly. I do not allow it to fester. The things I write about are just my thoughts on whatever. This morning I was thinking about inflation, giving the cost of gasoline these days. The value of that commodity surely rises and falls quickly enough.

I hear all the cries about taxing the billionaires! The wealthy should have their income limited! They have too much money! The government should provide us all with a guaranteed income, free health care, free education through college, affordable housing and unlimited access to the internet. Thing is, I see it this way. We gave it to them, and now we are saying, give it back! Where do billionaires and governments get their money? From you is the answer.

Stop giving your money away and the value of that money will increase. But you say, the government demands we pay taxes. Yes it does, and the reason is to pay for essential services. The whole problem begins when what you decide, by representation, just what is essential. The United States government gives away over 590 billion dollars a year in grants! That number doesn’t reflect what we give away to other nations in the name of charity or assistance. Yes, when you give it away, it does lose its’ value. Margaret Thatcher explained it perfectly when she said, “you run out of others peoples money” When that happens you have to give more of your own and that is inflation! That’s how it works.
