When I decided to write these blogs I choose the title Random Thoughts and Memories to reflect what I thought I would write. Now I’ve read where a blog is supposed to be more focused, concentrated on a single topic or interest. Having read that I can’t really call what I write a blog. Random thoughts and memories really does fit the bill. Some of my thoughts are connected, but with the time between them, I’m quite certain that is lost to my readers. I cringe at the thought of having followers, I’m not a cult leader.

Opinionated. Yes that is a word that would describe me. It means to have or hold strong opinions. It is also, unfortunately associated with having a biased view. Some folks may call me dogmatic, although I would disagree with that, but then I’m opinionated. Do I present my opinion as fact? Not in my view I don’t, but many people appear to receive them that way. Being dogmatic isn’t specifically mentioned in the DSM, the book of mental illnesses, but is closely associated with a number of diagnosis that are listed. Being dogmatic expresses unfounded opinions.

In my opinion when my opinion is founded, it is a fact. But hey, that’s just my opinion. Opinions to me aren’t something that you prove or disprove as fact. An opinion is just that, an opinion. When you don’t like or disagree with my opinion that doesn’t make it wrong, it makes it different from yours. Changing your opinion isn’t the same as changing a fact. Yes, facts do change. Well the opinion of what is a fact and what isn’t may change anyway. Lots of that happening today. That’s why that book the DSM undergoes revision from time to time; opinions change.

I got thinking about all of this because I get ads urging me to monetize my blog, to spread the word and gain more followers. I get generous offers from various websites willing to help me with that, for a very nominal fee of course. I could go viral, become the next big influencer! That is a responsibility I don’t want! I’ve had people say I’m a bad influence and I believe them. You just have to read at your own risk, I’m not assuming that responsibility.

I have been posting these writings for fifteen years now. I’ve had those that admired my writing, my thoughts and opinions. Then I’ve had those same people change their opinion. Well, it happens. I’ve changed my opinion on some folks too, not just the ones that changed their opinion of me. When opinion becomes fact, that’s when you act! The trick is in knowing the difference. Well, that all depends upon what you believe. Is what you believe a fact? It is to you, it may not be to me. That’s my opinion.
