I keep hearing about the “rights” I and everyone else in America have. All of them guaranteed by the Constitution. One topping the list is healthcare. You have an absolute right to healthcare. I agree that no one should be turned away from any medical care they need, no one excluded. But, is that a right? The thing about rights is someone has to enforce them and someone has to pay for them. The government has the responsibility to enforce those rights. Does that mean the government is also responsible for paying for those rights? It has to be remembered that the government has no money of its’ own, it is all taxpayers money, your money.

That brings us to the imposition of taxes and fees. A touchy subject indeed. Taxes are necessary to fund the government, that can’t be avoided. Fees are usually charged for services. Receiving medical care is a service provided by professionals. Who should pay those professionals for that service? Should the government use your taxes to do that? The government paying for a service? Is there really a right to that? Where in the constitution does it say, the government shall provide health care to every citizen. It doesn’t.

If the government is going to pay the fees charged by professionals, who gets to set the amount of that fee? Does that give license to those professionals to just charge any amount they like? Well, that isn’t going to work now is it. The only solution being, the government then decides how much they should receive for the services they perform. Would you be good with that>? I mean, you’re a mechanic and the government just decides you get forty dollars for doing a brake job, nothing more. Or you’re a wedding planner, the government decides what fee you may charge. Don’t you have a right to charge whatever you want? Is there anything in the constitution preventing that?

I’m hearing a lot about the Save Act and how that is nothing but a poll tax! A poll tax is against the law, that is indeed in the constitution, the 24th amendment. Thing is if you need to procure any documents to satisfy the requirements in the Save Act you get charged a fee. A fee isn’t a tax. Yes, I know, it feels like a tax but it isn’t, Bruce Jenner may feel like a woman, but he isn’t. The government is under no obligation to pay the fees. That is your responsibility. Really no different than the fees charged when you want to get a drivers license or any other license for that matter. Having to pay for your drivers license isn’t a tax, rather it is a fee charged for a service.

I have an absolute right to be treated at any health care facility in the country. I also have an obligation to pay for that service. Should I not be able to pay for those services I am dependent upon charity. The same applies to housing and food. If I can’t afford to buy any of that I am dependent upon the charity of others. I have no right to receive food or housing on the taxpayers dime. It doesn’t say that in the constitution.

The government exists for what reasons? Government exists to protect rights and maintain order. That is the main function of our government. The government isn’t there to provide everything to everyone. The government enables everyone to pursue their goals on an equal playing field. That’s the rights being guaranteed. That’s accomplished by maintaining law and order. Law and order is maintained by the imposition of taxes. Fees are charged for everything else.

Nothing is free! The government has no money but your money. Should you decide to provide charity to others, that is a personal choice. Unless you are willing to allow the government to set the amount of compensation you receive for whatever service you are providing demanding the government pay for universal health care is a mute argument! Demanding others pay for your services? Is that really a right, guaranteed in the constitution? I don’t think so.
