As has become my habit, I post good morning to my Facebook page. Then I scroll down the page to see what’s happening. It has become the same old thing, predominately political rhetoric. It does seem to be dominated by anti Trump, anti conservative postings. Mixed in are all the usual memes that are generally misinformation or outright lies and fabrications. I question why I even bother. I find myself more annoyed than entertained. But old habits are hard to break.
Now I do enjoy getting my good mornings in return to my posting. I do enjoy seeing the posts and pictures of those I consider my social network friends. Those posts and pictures are getting to be far and few between. I haven’t seen any prolonged discussions in quite some time. Well, most of those just turned into arguments and insults being exchanged anyway. My guess is that others just grew tired of that. I tried, I really did, but I apparently upset a number of folks with my opinions. Well, if we can’t have an honest discussion I would just as soon say nothing at all. I still post my thoughts and opinions just in the “what’s on your mind block” these days.
I find I’m a bit addicted to facebook, it isn’t nearly as enjoyable as it once was. I wonder if Facebook hasn’t run its’ course. The social aspect is certainly fading fast, if not completely disappearing. That does make me question what is fueling it now? My thinking it is just those willing to pay to post their political propaganda. The money is coming from somewhere! Is it solely advertising? I don’t think so, I think there is a bit more to it.
I thought to just quit Facebook altogether, but I would miss what little interaction I have with others on there. It still provides moments of entertainment, I’m amused by some of the meme’s. It’s a shame that so many become so willing to just be rude, aggressive and outright mean. So many became empowered by perceived anonymity. You can’t touch me! Yes Facebook became more like children on the playground, the big difference being, the other kids can’t touch you.
You’re safe from physical bullies on Facebook and Facebook began a program of censoring bullies with their terms of compliance. Remember Facebook jail? Yes, I did time for posting my opinions. Those terms have been relaxed. You have to wonder why that is? The majority of the responses that got people like myself placed in “time out” came from those political postings, those posting designed to incite a response. Emotions are great motivators!
It doesn’t do much good to post that stuff when those responding to it are being silenced. I’m not spending my money on that. Was that censoring having a financial impact on Facebook? Well, it did change its’ name to Meta. The stated goal being to establish a “metaverse” of interconnected social platforms to promote virtual and augmented reality. In other words, control the narrative through the use of an “alternative” reality. Bottom line though is it is just business. For me, its’ like watching a show even though the commercials really stink! I’m still watching, although I’m not sure why.
