It seems like every other post I see on Facebook these days is about trans people. I see stories about trans children, as young as four, telling their parents about that. I see people claiming they have always known they were trans. People claiming they were assigned the wrong gender at birth. I’m trying to understand all of that but it just makes zero sense to me. I view it as a mental illness. I’m not saying it is a choice, no one choices to be mentally ill, but you should recognize that you are ill! I would think today that should be more evident than ever, given all the awareness being promoted.
Yes I suppose there have always been those that were trans. We used to call that cross dressing, a fetish of sorts, something outside normal expectations. People have all sorts of fetishes and it’s my thinking the majority of them go unknown to others, unless they share in that particular fetish. That secretive behavior in no way makes it normal, that’s why those folks don’t normally make it a public thing. They are aware that it isn’t. If everyone suffers from the same psychosis does that make it normal? No, it doesn’t.
I fail to see how enabling this behavior, supporting it in any way, is beneficial to society in general. I’m not saying those folks should be persecuted in any way, just that they should be treated for that condition. They need to be told the truth, they were not assigned the wrong gender at birth. You are what you are as far as gender goes. Your personal preferences are a completely different thing altogether. That is the basis for mental health. What do mental health professionals study? They study psychological disorders. We often think of depression, anxiety and traumatic incidents when thinking about that. Believing you are something other than what you are is also a psychological disorder. In fact, it’s called gender dysphoria.
So I question all of this. Are we now to say the treatment for gender dysphoria is just to accept that. Are we going to say it is perfectly normal behavior? There was a time when human sacrifice was considered normal enough, entire civilizations practiced that. Now if you want to play dress up, that pleases you and you are comfortable with that, that’s your business, not mine. Insisting that I play along is not part of the deal. I’m a white guy, if I insisted you call me a black woman, dressed up with a natural hair wig, would you just go along with that? Do I really get to identify as anything I want, and you are obligated to go along with that? I’m a superhero and wear tights with a cape to work, do you have to accept that?
I just see all of that as a cry for attention. Look at me, look at me. That began when we started rewarding abnormal behaviors instead of treating them. We started enabling, instead of correcting! It is far easier to dismiss responsibility than to accept it. Just humor them! As long as it doesn’t harm me personally, I should just ignore all of that. In fact, that makes me a better person. That’s the thinking today. It’s an appeal to emotion that attempts to justify a fallacy. In this example, you were assigned the wrong gender. You weren’t, no matter how you feel about that. And that, that is the simple truth of the matter.

This is not normal.
