To the best of my memory it has been the longest period between posting a blog since I began 15 years ago. It’s a rare occasion for certain. It was caused by a bug. Not a computer bug though some biological thing that attacked me! Well, I’ll give that bug its’ due, it put up a great fight but I have triumphed once again! Yes, I know in the end nature will win, she always does, like your wife almost. It came on very suddenly and progressed through a number of symptoms. Still I never presented it to a medical expert. The old ginger ale and chicken soup tried and true cure came through once again.
I haven’t had any flu shots, any immunizations in well over a year. In fact the only time I have was when I was in the service, no choice about that, and right before the birth of my great granddaughter. That was a request from my grandson, he married a nurse, it is there first child and they are being very cautious. I balked a bit, but complied. I haven’t been back for any boosters or any of that. And I’m smiling because I survived! According to the main stream media I should have been crippled for life or dead without those. I’m sticking with herd immunity! There’s safety in the pack!
I also hadn’t been on Facebook. Not even to post my morning salutation. That’s a sure indication that I wasn’t feeling well. Since I have been retired Facebook has become a part of the morning routine. Sometimes too much! Surprisingly enough I didn’t miss it as much as I thought I might have. Well it wasn’t a complete separation I did take a peek every now and again, a sort of maintenance dose you could call it. That bug couldn’t make me go cold turkey!
We had a couple days were the temperature rose into the 70’s. Meteorological spring began on 1 March. But real spring begins on March 20th. Isn’t that something? I wonder if the sudden change in temperature had anything to do with waking up this bug. I remember a television commercial from the 1960’s whose catch phrase was, a summer cold is a different animal, an ugly animal ooh” Funny how things like that stick in your head but how to work a formula doesn’t hang around much longer than a few days. But this was no summer cold and “contac” wasn’t going to do a thing about that. Whatever animal this was has that beat, hands down. Be careful out there. No telling where those bugs are hibernating just waiting to be set free.
An aging man living in a confusing world. I was born and raised in East Hampton, yes “the Hamptons” but not rich, not famous and definitely not woke. These are my thoughts, my memories and my opinions. Just the stuff of the regular Joe.
