I keep hearing about all these “trans” people. Body dysphoria is another name for that and was, at one time, considered a mental illness. It’s my thought that it still is. I hear about all the instances of the courts insisting I use the persons preferred pronouns. Well okay then, but the thing is this. If you are not advertising your “transness” I most likely will call you by the pronoun befitting your dress and/or body shape. Unless I want to start a fight, or insult, or I am angry with you for some reason, that is what I will do. Appearance dictates that. If it looks like a duck, you know the rest.

What I do find troubling is the number of children that profess to have this issue. When I was a child we had tomboys, those were the girls that liked to do boy stuff. We also had guys that liked to do the girl stuff and we just called them sissies. My whole childhood I never met or knew anyone that said they had the wrong body. My suspicion is that children today are being offered that as an alternative. An alternative to just hearing the truth. You are not as masculine or feminine as some of your peers. Yeah, it’s like knowing you just aren’t as smart, good looking, or strong. Maybe you lack artistic talent, can’t play an instrument or sing. It’s called life. You learn to play the cards you are dealt, not insisting on changing the game.

We all experience some level of insecurity. That is part of what makes us human. The job of parents is to help children establish security for themselves. We called that learning about life. The first lesson I was taught was, God helps those that help themselves. Independence, not reliance on the crowd. That is the foundation of security. There will always be those that are different from you, have different interests, and different opinions. You are what you are, and you don’t need to explain that to anyone. And for me that’s how I see all this trans stuff. An attempt to explain instead of an attempt to correct.

No one is born with the wrong body. At one point the Maryland states attorney proclaimed that no one under the age of 26 should be held criminally responsible as an adult. That’s because the brain isn’t fully developed until you are 26 years old. I was urged to trust the science on that! Okay, so then how can a five year old child know they have the wrong body? They have to be told that, that’s how. What about a teenager? Yes son, you were born with the wrong body. In general I hear about men wanting to transition to being women.

Well it is certainly easier to be the “big” man among women isn’t it? What it is is a mental illness, not a physical thing. Thing is, unless you tell me about that I most likely will not say a thing. I may indeed give you a glance, make a face or something but I won’t confront you. If what you are doing makes you feel unsafe in some fashion, you probably shouldn’t be doing it. Fear is a warning system. Insecurity cripples. Yes, there can be safety in delusion, but it remains only as long as others play along. The truth remains, always. You can change the appearance, but you can’t change the truth.
