Was just listening to some testimony regarding something being called Artic Frost. Artic Frost, initiated during the Biden administration is an investigation centered around election integrity. It involves several federal agencies including the FBI and CIA. President Trump has been accused and a variety of others in Congress are being questioned and scrutinized. The testimony I was listening to was focused on telephone records. Several major carriers are under attack for releasing phone records of those congresspeople. The carriers responding with, they had received subpoenas from the justice department for those records and they simply complied.

To a layman like myself, just the average Joe, it all seems reasonable enough. Those carriers had complied with the law. What I found a bit disturbing was the response of those congresspeople conducting that hearing. The feeling I got was they thought those phone carriers should have challenged those subpoenas in court. They should have refused to comply. It seems to me I hear that an awful lot these days, do not comply with the law!

It just seems very odd to me that a body of lawmakers, and that is exactly what the congress does, make law, would be advocating for non-compliance with the law. Yet, that is exactly what I heard them saying. They were even implying that because they did comply with the law they may be subject to penalties’ and prosecution. So, am I now to think compliance with the law is wrong? I should question every law, refuse to comply and insist on a supreme court decision before compliance? It sure sounds that way to me.

Consider this which is taking place here in Maryland. There is a program called 287(g) in regards to immigration. Basically what 287(g) allows is for local law enforcement, when they have someone in custody, to check there immigration status. If they are found to be in the country illegally, that information is turned over to ICE. That person will be detained until an ICE agent comes to take them into their custody. Right now the Maryland house is voting on whether to abolish that altogether. They want to make that illegal!

Yes, if you get detained for one thing you can’t be detained or charged with anything else. That’s how I see that. You stopped me for a traffic violation but you can’t check my record for anything else, and even if you do, you can’t do anything about that. I can only be held accountable for what you caught me doing. Just because I have warrants in another state for bank robbery, murder or whatever, you can’t tell that state or hold me on those charges.

Now as far as this investigation called Artic Frost goes, I really don’t know much about that. It all just sounds like a bunch of people pointing fingers at one another and trying to place blame. As far as phone records go if you have nothing to hide why would you be upset about that? I realize I’m not a public figure of any kind, I’m not a politician, a celebrity or entertainer. If a subpoena were issued for my phone records I certainly wouldn’t be a bit concerned. The reason being, I have nothing to hide. AT&T did refuse and not supply the records requested by Jack Smith the former special consul targeting republicans. In fact a total of 197 subpoenas were issued in that Artic frost investigation.

It is the Republicans that are upset by the release of those phone records. They contend it was unlawful. They describe the requesting of that information as a “fishing” trip, an attempt to find anything they could use against Trump and the results of the 2020 election. It was a weaponization of the justice system! Well, I can see that view, but I can also see it as a tool. Weapons are tools. They way they are viewed is by whether it was used to your benefit, or your detriment. Were those subpoenas legal? The short answer is yes. Should those carriers have complied? Again, the answer is yes. My question is why did AT&T not comply and why aren’t they in trouble for that? No one is above the law, isn’t that the narrative today?

I’m a Republican. That is my official political affiliation. It doesn’t mean I vote the straight party line in every instance. It is just a reflection of my overall political views, ie: conservative. In this instance I’m taking exception to those republicans, namely Marsha Blackburn and Jack Hawley, advocating for not complying withe the law. I’m happy they aren’t just letting all of that slide, but not happy when I hear them saying to not obey the law. I advocate for working within the law and not open defiance of the law when you just don’t like it. I know, it isn’t as simple as all that but it is to me. It doesn’t mean I’m now going to denounce my party, protest, set anything on fire. No, I just have to accept a simple fact, you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
