So the big conversation on Facebook has been Bad Bunny and the halftime show. I’ll start by saying, I didn’t watch any of that. The reason I didn’t watch was first, I don’t speak Spanish, and secondly I don’t listen to rap music. It is simply of no interest to me, no entertainment value whatsoever as far as I am concerned. I have also never been to the ballet or the opera. Some of the same reasons apply. I don’t feel like I would be entertained. What color the performers are doesn’t enter into any of that.

I have seen this Bad Bunny character before. I do enjoy “sports entertainment” also called professional wrasslin’ and he has made an appearance there. Celebrities often make appearances and I think they really just enjoy it. I can see that and would like an opportunity to play along as well. When you enjoy celebrity status you get those types of invitations. Jelly Roll was there just recently too. I don’t know much about him either, a guy that lost a lot of weight, sings “new” country songs. I think he used to be an addict or a criminal or both. Whatever, I’m not entertained by him. either.

The whole deal with the Superbowl halftime show is really about selling tickets, attracting customers. Given the prices of tickets these days I would think you would have to appeal to those that could afford those tickets. That audience isn’t the average Joe America. So Bad Bunny would appeal to who? Is that the demographic with all the money? No, not really, but we can attract the “inclusive” people, those with an interest in virtue signaling, throwing there support behind the marginalized, the oppressed and the less fortunate than ourselves. Whatever benefit it brings to themselves is just a side effect, they surely aren’t looking for any entitlement for themselves.

I do question why Roger Goodell would approve of Bad Bunny for the show. I understand that Goodell wants the NFL to be a worldwide thing, expanding the business across the globe. They already play games overseas and draw a good audience. The attraction is? Well, not much different from going to see an Elephant or a Rhino in America, it’s a novelty. It’s different and you don’t see it very often. Bad Bunny did fit the bill for me as far as that goes, on all counts. I just wasn’t at all interested in seeing that show. And, it was free. Not even Bad Bunny got paid for that performance! Perhaps he got some new fans. Perhaps, more importantly to him was all the liberals buying Bad Bunny merch to show how inclusive they really are. They be cool bro!

I did see a short piece were someone was translating the lyrics of one of the songs he was signing. I read that and wasn’t shocked or surprised. It was all the usual rap stuff about drugs, sexual content, violence and struggles. Just a bunch of nonsense as far as I am concerned. Probably the same reaction my grandparents had when I was listening to rock and roll songs; now they are played while I’m waiting in the “queue” Yes it is the contemporary style, the in thing, what’s happening and all that. None of that makes it appealing to me. I wasn’t a big fan of the Beatles either. Heck, I’m not a fan of half of the “country” singers these days.

The only thing surprising about those lyrics was allowing them on television. Guess that is why they were in Spanish, most of us wouldn’t know what they said. And I’m guessing Roger Goodell figures all Spanish speaking peoples would be perfectly fine with them. Is Bad Bunny truly a representation of all Puerto Rican and Latin American peoples? They all embrace his ideals and his lyrics? Is that truly their culture? Well, I’m thinking maybe it is just halftime, we’ll have to wait and see how the rest of this game goes. I’m rooting for the home team. And, as Forest Gump once said, ” that’s all I have to say about that.”
